Det började livet som Skånes Radio Mercur , den första " piratradio " i Sverige Radio Syd startades så småningom i Gambia strax utanför huvudstaden Banjul . På senare år har Radio Syd i Gambia varit värd för besökande sändaramatörer som sätter upp tillfälliga kortvågstationer och deltar i internationella tävlingar.
